Description
AERONET inversion code provides aerosol optical properties in the total atmospheric column derived from direct and diffuse radiation measurements by Cimel sun/sky-radiometers. The Version 2 (V2) inversion products are summarized and available through the AERONET website and internal systems, with development described in papers by Dubovik, King, and Sinyuk et al. The dataset is provided by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and was last updated on 2026-03 13.
Use Cases
Modeling aerosol radiative forcing based on derived aerosol optical properties.
Validating satellite aerosol retrievals based on ground-based sun/sky radiometer measurements.
Analyzing atmospheric column aerosol properties based on inversion products.
Studying aerosol-cloud interactions based on aerosol optical depth and size distribution data.
Strengths
Data is derived from the established AERONET network of Cimel sun/sky-radiometers.
Inversion methodology is documented in multiple peer-reviewed publications (Dubovik et al., 2000, 2002, 2006; Sinyuk et al., 2006).
Dataset is provided by the authoritative organization National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
