Description
June 2018 data estimating the likelihood of Soft Shelled Clam presence in the Bay of Fundy and Port Hawkesbury Area Response Plan pilot areas. The dataset was created by the Coastal Oceanography and Ecosystem Research section of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, integrating reported harvest data, study areas, and local knowledge. A version formatted for the National Environmental Emergency Center is also available.
Use Cases
Modeling species distribution for environmental emergency planning based on estimated likelihood of presence.
Assessing potential shellfish resources for fisheries management based on integrated harvest and study area data.
Informing coastal zone management decisions based on geospatial likelihood estimates.
Validating habitat suitability models using local knowledge and reported data points.
Strengths
Created by the Coastal Oceanography and Ecosystem Research section of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, an authoritative source.
Integrates multiple data sources: reported harvest, study areas, and local knowledge.
Available in multiple geospatial formats (CSV, ESRI REST, FGDB/GDB) for flexibility.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and spatial resolution are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific pilot areas studied.
