Description
Australian Ocean Data Network provides the Underway dataset from research voyage LI2014_V04. The data includes continuous GPS navigation, thermosalinograph, and fluorometer measurements recorded at 1-second intervals during a mooring deployment and monitoring mission off Western Australia on March 19, 2014. Data are stored in NetCDF and CSV formats at 1-second, 10-second, and 5-minute intervals.
Use Cases
Mapping ship track and oceanographic conditions based on continuous GPS and thermosalinograph data.
Analyzing high-frequency variations in seawater temperature and salinity from the 1-second interval TSG data.
Investigating phytoplankton distributions using the underway fluorometer measurements.
Calibrating or validating ocean models with in-situ data collected from the Perth Canyon region.
Strengths
Data is recorded at high temporal resolution, with measurements stored at 1-second intervals.
Includes multiple synchronized data streams: navigation, thermosalinograph, and fluorometer.
Data is available in both NetCDF and CSV formats, catering to different user preferences.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale ML tasks.
The dataset covers a single day (March 19, 2014), limiting temporal analysis scope.
