Lord Howe Island shelf benthic infauna feeding guild counts aggregated from species-level data collected during a 2008 marine survey. Geoscience Australia conducted the survey using the RV Southern Surveyor, mapping seabed bathymetry and characterizing benthic environments through sediment sampling, video observation, and oceanographic measurements. Feeding guild data was derived from species information compiled in October 2010.
Use Cases
- Analyze benthic community trophic structure based on feeding guild counts.
- Model relationships between benthic habitats and infauna feeding guilds based on colocated sampling.
- Study marine shelf ecosystem health using aggregated species-level ecological data.
Strengths
- Data originates from a dedicated 2008 marine survey by Geoscience Australia using a national research vessel.
- Bathymetric data was merged with preexisting sources to cover a 1034 sq km grid.
- Feeding guild counts are aggregated from documented species-level data.
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
