Description
Lord Howe Rise, a submerged plateau within Australian marine jurisdiction, is the focus of this bathymetry dataset. Geoscience Australia and JAMSTEC collected multibeam data covering 62,360 km² during a 2016 seismic survey to assess potential deep-sea drilling sites. Eight bathymetry grids with 50 to 80-meter resolution were produced from the shipborne 12 KHz sonar system.
Use Cases
Site selection for deep-sea stratigraphic drilling based on seabed topography.
Geomorphological analysis of the Lord Howe Rise plateau based on bathymetric grids.
Integration with seismic data for subsurface geological modeling based on the survey's purpose.
Baseline mapping for marine jurisdiction and environmental management based on the defined area.
Strengths
Covers a large, defined area of 62,360 km².
Provides high-resolution bathymetry grids at 50 to 80 meters.
Data was collected by authoritative institutions (Geoscience Australia and JAMSTEC) for a specific scientific proposal.
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
