Description
28,358 radio sources with spectral indices between -1.0 and +0.4, assembled to study the radio/gamma-ray connection in blazars. The catalog was created by NASA HEASARC in July 2014 based on a reference paper, combining observations from the WENSS, WISH, and NVSS surveys. It is intended for future searches for blazar-like counterparts of gamma-ray sources.
Use Cases
Identify potential blazar counterparts for unidentified gamma-ray sources based on low-frequency flat radio spectra.
Study the spectral index distribution of radio sources between 1400 MHz and 325/352 MHz.
Analyze log N - log S distributions for the cataloged radio source population.
Compare spectral properties with higher-frequency catalogs like the Green Bank 6 cm catalog.
Strengths
Contains 28,358 radio sources, providing a substantial sample for analysis.
Spectral indices are defined for a specific low-frequency range (between 1400 and 325/352 MHz).
Built by combining three established radio survey catalogs (WENSS, WISH, NVSS).
Catalog creation and methodology are described in a referenced scientific paper.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is known, but specific column names and sample data are unavailable for inspection.

Provenance
Source
NASA HEASARC, based on a machine-readable version from a paper in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.
Collection Method
Combined radio observations from the Westerbork Northern Sky Survey (WENSS), Westerbork in the southern hemisphere (WISH), and the NRAO Very Large Array Sky survey (NVSS).
Time Range
Based on observations from surveys conducted in the 1990s (e.g., NVSS) and referenced gamma-ray missions from the 1970s-2010s.
Freshness
Last updated 2026-03-13 16:45:58.090432; update frequency is unknown.
Geography
Covers northern and southern hemispheres via the WENSS and WISH surveys.
