Description
August 2012 catalog lists all confirmed globular clusters, candidate clusters, and previously misclassified objects in the Andromeda Galaxy (M 31). The catalog was created by the HEASARC in November 2014 based on Version 5 of the Revised Bologna Catalogue. It includes classification flags for objects such as genuine clusters, foreground stars, background galaxies, and HII regions.
Use Cases
Training classification models to distinguish genuine globular clusters from other objects based on catalog classification flags.
Conducting statistical analysis of the globular cluster population in M 31 compared to other galaxies.
Identifying and filtering out previously known non-cluster objects to avoid rediscovery in new surveys.
Strengths
Includes a classification flag for each entry, distinguishing confirmed clusters, candidates, and non-clusters like stars and galaxies.
Maintains a historical record of misclassified candidates to prevent future rediscovery efforts.
Catalog version (V.5) and publication date (August 2012) are explicitly stated.
Limitations
Row count and specific column definitions are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is from 2012; newer discoveries or reclassifications may not be included.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
