From 1875 to 1931, the Prussian State Recording and later Reich Office for Land Recording produced this series of topographic maps at a scale of 1:25,000. The work, known as measuring table sheets, features contour lines and a normal-zero reference and was created to meet civilian demand. The Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie provides these plano sheets, which are mostly single-colored prints.
Use Cases
- Analyze historical land use and settlement patterns based on the detailed topographic representation.
- Study the evolution of cartographic techniques based on the transition from single-colored to multi-colored prints.
- Georeference and compare historical features with modern maps based on the contour line and normal-zero reference system.
Strengths
- Covers a significant historical period from 1875 to 1931.
- Provides large-scale topographic detail at 1:25,000.
- Includes contour lines and a standardized vertical datum (normal-zero).
Limitations
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Last updated 1938-01-01 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
