From 1875 to 1931, the Prussian state produced a series of large-scale topographic maps known as measuring table sheets. This map work, created by the Bundesamt für Kartographie und Geodäsie, constituted the most detailed topographic basis for the area of the German Empire at the time. The sheets are plano maps, primarily monochrome with some multi-colored prints.
Use Cases
- Analyze historical land cover changes based on the topographic map series.
- Study the evolution of cartographic techniques based on the monochrome and multi-colored printing methods.
- Georeference historical features based on the detailed 1:25,000 scale and contour lines.
- Research civil infrastructure development based on the maps intended to meet civil needs.
Strengths
- Covers a significant historical period from 1875 to 1931.
- Represents the largest-scale topographic map work for the German Empire at the time.
- Includes contour line representation and height references.
Limitations
- Last updated 1939-01-01 00:00:00; freshness should be verified.
- Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
