Description
236 documented species of marine benthic algae from Norfolk Island, with 60 species illustrated. The dataset includes taxonomic classifications, distribution notes, and biogeographic affinities for each species, compiled by Parks Australia. This record was made available following the decommissioning of the Australian Marine Parks Science Atlas.
Use Cases
Analyzing species composition and diversity based on the documented counts of Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta, and Rhodophyta.
Studying biogeographic affinities and range extensions based on shared species with the Great Barrier Reef, New South Wales, and Lord Howe Island.
Investigating taxonomic relationships based on notes about conspecific species like Chrysymenia ornata and C. digitata.
Mapping local distribution patterns for species with restricted ranges, such as Solieria anastomosa and Dasya fruticulosa.
Strengths
Documents 236 distinct algal taxa with specific counts per phylum: 41 Chlorophyta, 41 Phaeophyta, and 154 Rhodophyta.
Includes illustrations for 60 of the documented species.
All records are fully referenced with type localities and distribution notes.
Highlights specific biogeographic relationships, noting 106 species shared with Lord Howe Island.
