The Marine Futures Project mapped approximately 1,500 km² of seafloor around Western Australia to benchmark marine ecosystem status. Surveys combined hydroacoustic mapping with towed video and baited underwater video systems to produce fine-scale habitat maps. The data for Rottnest Island, collected by the Australian Ocean Data Network, shows a unique mix of tropical and temperate species and habitats.
