Description
Firth of Clyde South seafloor data collected in 2023 under the UK's Civil Hydrography Programme. The dataset includes acoustic backscatter mosaics, seabed samples, images, and sediment shapefiles, verified by the UK Hydrographic Office. Data was gathered by the British Geological Survey using vessels Lode, Northern Storm, and Northern Wind equipped with a Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam echosounder.
Use Cases
Classifying seabed sediment types based on the sediment point and area shapefiles.
Creating seafloor habitat maps using the acoustic backscatter mosaics.
Ground-truthing remote sensing data with the H575 seabed samples and images.
Analyzing sediment distribution patterns in the Firth of Clyde.
Strengths
Data is verified by the authoritative UK Hydrographic Office.
Includes multiple complementary data types: mosaics, samples, images, and shapefiles.
Collection methodology is specified, using a Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam system.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
