Description
UK coastal seabed data from Lundy to Gower, collected in 2024. The dataset includes acoustic backscatter mosaics, seabed samples (H575), and images, verified by the UK Hydrographic Office. It was gathered by the British Geological Survey using the vessel MV Northern Wind and a Kongsberg EM 2040D multibeam echosounder.
Use Cases
Classify seabed sediment types based on acoustic backscatter mosaics.
Validate remote sensing data with physical seabed samples (H575).
Map benthic habitats by correlating backscatter data with seabed images.
Analyze seabed roughness and texture from high-resolution backscatter data.
Strengths
Data is verified by the authoritative UK Hydrographic Office.
Includes multiple data types: mosaics, physical samples, and images for cross-validation.
Collected using a specified modern survey vessel (MV Northern Wind) and instrument (Kongsberg EM 2040D).
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
