Description
In 2014, a four-day survey (March 10, 11, 30, and April 1) mapped the seafloor inside and outside the Merri Marine Sanctuary. The data were collected by Deakin University using a Kongsberg EM2040c multi-beam echosounder aboard the Motor Vessel Yolla. This project, commissioned by Parks Victoria, aims to associate southern rock lobster populations with specific seafloor habitats.
Use Cases
[Habitat modeling] for southern rock lobster based on seafloor depth and structure.
[Marine sanctuary management] using detailed bathymetric maps for conservation planning.
[Geomorphological analysis] of the Bass Strait seafloor from high-resolution sonar data.
[Validating regional seafloor models] with precise, localized survey measurements.
Strengths
High-resolution data collected with a Kongsberg EM2040c multi-beam echosounder.
Clear temporal specificity from four known survey days in March and April 2014.
Cross-platform presence on data.gov.au indicates recognized importance and curation.
Limitations
Critical metadata such as row count, file size, license, and author are missing from all sources.
Data is explicitly not to be used for navigational purposes, limiting its application.
