Description
MESSENGER Neutron Spectrometer calibrated data records contain neutron spectra emitted from Mercury's surface in the energy range from 0.01 eV to 7 MeV. The data set includes five products: raw neutron spectra, NS counter data, galactic cosmic ray spectra, engineering data, and gamma-ray burst data. Version 2.0 was published by NASA and supersedes version 1.
Use Cases
Modeling planetary surface composition based on neutron spectra.
Analyzing galactic cosmic ray interactions with Mercury's environment.
Calibrating neutron spectrometer instruments based on engineering data.
Detecting and studying gamma-ray bursts from the Mercury region.
Comparing neutron emission data across different energy ranges from 0.01 eV to 7 MeV.
Strengths
Data covers neutron energy range from 0.01 eV to 7 MeV.
Includes five distinct calibrated data products.
Version 2.0 supersedes an earlier version, indicating refinement.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download.
