Description
NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft acquired electron flux and magnetic field observations during assessment orbits. The data consists of GIF plots showing electron fluxes at 10, 50, 130, 300, and 1000 eV, magnetic field amplitude, spacecraft altitude, and a color spectrogram. Numerical data will be released later after validation and calibration.
Use Cases
Visualizing electron flux energy distributions based on the 10, 50, 130, 300, and 1000 eV energy levels mentioned in the description
Analyzing magnetic field amplitude and variability around Mars based on the magnetic field observations
Correlating spacecraft altitude with electron flux and magnetic field measurements based on the altitude data included in the plots
Strengths
Data originates from NASA's Mars Global Surveyor mission, a credible source
Plots include electron flux measurements at five specific energy levels: 10, 50, 130, 300, and 1000 eV
Plots combine multiple derived observations: electron fluxes, magnetic field amplitude and rms, and spacecraft altitude
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
The numerical data is not yet available, only preliminary plot images
