Description
Japan/East Sea data collected during Shelf Experiment 1 for the Office of Naval Research NICOP program. The 429.7 MB repository includes CTD, Lowered ADCP, ship ADCP, and microstructure shear data from station S1, plus TRBM mooring data from locations M1, M2, and M3. Author Kyung-il Chang published the data on figshare under a CC-BY-4.0 license, with a final report referenced in Chang et al. (2023).
Use Cases
Analyzing water column structure and mixing based on CTD data mentioned in the description
Studying current profiles and velocities based on Lowered ADCP and ship ADCP data
Investigating small-scale turbulence and shear based on microstructure data
Examining time-series observations from moorings at three locations M1, M2, and M3
Strengths
Includes multiple complementary oceanographic instrument types (CTD, ADCP, microstructure)
Data is consolidated from a specific field experiment (Shelf Exp. 1) with a referenced final report
Released under a permissive CC-BY-4.0 license for reuse
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data appears focused on a single station (S1) and three mooring points, limiting spatial coverage
Provenance
Source
Office of Naval Research (ONR) Naval International Cooperative Opportunities in Science and Technology Program (NICOP)
