Description
Virgil Vlad prepared a set of ESRI ArcMap-10 files implementing the Romanian color standard for soil type map legends. The dataset includes shapefiles, layer files, and style files representing 67 standard legend items, which are assigned to 60 main soils, four nonsoils, and three special land cases in Romania. The legend uses the SRTS-2012+ and WRB-2014 soil classification systems, with colors designed to be perceptually distinguishable.
Use Cases
Creating standardized digital soil maps for Romania based on the provided ESRI ArcMap layer and style files.
Applying the Romanian color standard to soil type map legends to ensure visual consistency and perceptual distinguishability.
Modifying or adapting the provided symbol set for other specific cartographic or soil classification requirements.
Strengths
The legend contains 67 standard items, including 63 proper colors with defined lightness/chroma degrees, four shades of grey, and white.
Colors are designed with a perceptual color difference (DE*ab) greater than 10 units, ensuring they are acceptably distinguishable.
Soil types are classified according to both the Romanian SRTS-2012+ system and the international WRB-2014 system.
Limitations
The shapefile set is not a real georeferenced layer; it is designed only to handle legend instants.
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
