Description
67 layers provide daily, gap-filled, snow-free surface albedo and reflectance data derived from MODIS satellite observations. The LPCLOUD organization processes the underlying MCD43D product suite using a 16-day moving window to generate BRDF model parameters for 10 spectral bands. Data includes black-sky albedo, white-sky albedo, Nadir BRDF-Adjusted Reflectance, and model parameters.
Use Cases
Model surface energy balance using daily black-sky albedo (BSA) and white-sky albedo (WSA) layers.
Analyze snow-free land surface reflectance trends with Nadir BRDF-Adjusted Reflectance (NBAR) data across 10 spectral bands.
Filter data quality for research by applying the quality (QA) layer flags to isolate high-quality full inversion results.
Study vegetation dynamics using reflectance data from the near-infrared (0.7-5.0 um) and visible (0.3-0.7 um) broad bands.
Assess BRDF model parameters for surface scattering analysis using the isotropic (ISO), volumetric (VOL), and geometric (GEO) layers.
Strengths
67 distinct data layers provide multiple albedo, reflectance, and model parameter outputs.
Gap-filling and snow removal processing enhance data continuity for analysis.
Data is derived from the MODIS MCD43D Version 6.1 product suite, a standard source for land surface modeling.
Limitations
Product is not recommended for use at solar zenith angles beyond 70 degrees.
Each data layer is distributed as a separate HDF file, complicating integrated analysis.
Specific row count, file size, and temporal coverage details are unavailable.
Provenance
Source
LPCLOUD, derived from NASA MODIS MCD43D Version 6.1 product suite.
Collection Method
Derived from MODIS satellite reflectance data using a BRDF model over a 16-day moving window, with gap-filling and snow flag removal.
Time Range
null
Freshness
null
Geography
Global coverage at 30 arc second resolution.
Users must download quality (QA) layers separately to assess data before use. Data is provided in multiple HDF files per layer.
