Description
From February 16, 1994 to May 25, 2002, moored current meters collected oceanographic data in the Bering Sea, Gulf of Alaska, and North Pacific Ocean. The dataset includes velocity components, speed, direction, salinity, pressure, conductivity, and temperature, supporting the Fisheries-Oceanography Cooperative Investigations (FOCI) project. Data are self-documenting but not in standard formats.
Use Cases
Analyzing current speed and direction to model ocean circulation patterns.
Correlating temperature and salinity data with fisheries productivity studies.
Validating hydrodynamic models using East/West (U) and North/South (V) velocity components.
Investigating pressure and conductivity for water mass characterization.
Strengths
Covers a significant multi-year time series from 1994 to 2002.
Includes multiple physical oceanographic parameters (e.g., velocity, temperature, salinity).
Data is self-documenting, providing inherent context.
Limitations
Data format is non-standard, requiring specialized handling.
Key metadata such as row count, file size, and license are unavailable across all sources.
