Description
A global pattern of 1964 map tiles, each approximately 5 by 5 degrees, provides VNIR hyperspectral mapping data of the Martian surface. The dataset contains Lambert albedo images, summary products, and augmented DDR data, organized into 30 subdirectories by Mars Chart. It was produced by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and last updated in March 2026.
Use Cases
Map surface mineralogy based on hyperspectral reflectance data.
Analyze photometric and atmospheric corrections using the provided Lambert albedo values.
Study regional geological features using the 5x5 degree global tile mosaic.
Trace data processing steps using the positional and source information included with each measurement.
Strengths
Covers Mars with a systematic global pattern of 1964 map tiles.
Provides traceability to source data for every latitude and longitude measurement.
Includes three core data layers: Lambert albedo, summary products, and augmented DDR data.
Limitations
The mosaic is described as uncontrolled, which may result in minor image mismatches at seams.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count and file sizes are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
