Description
A mosaicked product of all publicly available bathymetry data within the Australian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) as of July 2024. It consists of 8 depth-stratified mosaics and derivatives (hillshade, slope, aspect) for ecosystem zones from 0 to over 6,000 meters, with resolutions ranging from 10 to 210 meters. The dataset was produced by the Australian Ocean Data Network using a systematic prioritization approach for input data.
Use Cases
Marine habitat modeling based on depth-stratified ecosystem zones.
Seabed geomorphology analysis using slope and aspect derivatives.
Visualizing full-coverage bathymetry of Australia's marine estate via WMS endpoints.
Prioritizing survey areas by identifying regions where foundational Digital Elevation Models were used.
Strengths
Provides full coverage of Australia's marine estate clipped to the EEZ boundary.
Includes 8 distinct mosaics with resolutions tailored to specific depth zones, from 10m to 210m.
Integrates all publicly available bathymetry data as of July 2024.
Offers associated derivative products: hillshade, slope, and aspect.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic or source bias inherent to the aggregated public data sources.
Provenance
Source
Australian Ocean Data Network
Collection Method
Mosaicking of publicly available bathymetry data (multibeam, singlebeam, satellite, seismic, DEMs) with a systematic prioritization approach.
