Description
Geochemical data from springs, streams, and monsoonal rainwater samples collected in the Melamchi Valley catchment, Nepal, between 2022 and 2025. The dataset includes analysis of major ions, stable water isotopes, and Sr, Li, Si, and C isotopes to investigate chemical weathering. It was contributed by the British Geological Survey (BGS).
Use Cases
Modeling chemical weathering rates along mountain flow paths based on major ion and isotope data.
Analyzing seasonal variations in water chemistry based on bi-weekly time series samples from 5 sites.
Investigating water source contributions and flow paths using stable water isotope and Sr/Li/Si/C isotope tracers.
Comparing geochemical signatures between different water sources (springs, streams, rainwater) within a single catchment.
Strengths
Multi-season data collection spanning from 2022 to 2025.
Includes analysis of major ions, stable water isotopes, and four specific isotope systems (Sr, Li, Si, C).
Bi-weekly time series sampling at 5 sites from 2023 to 2025 provides temporal resolution.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the single Melamchi Valley catchment.
Provenance
Source
British Geological Survey (BGS)
Collection Method
Filtered water samples collected from springs, streams, and monsoonal rainwater across the Melamchi Valley catchment, with springs grouped into sub-linear transects.
