Description
516 maps comprise the AUSTopo series, which covers the entire continent of Australia at a scale of 1:250,000. Each standard map sheet covers an area of approximately 1.5 degrees longitude by 1 degree latitude, showing natural and constructed features including roads, rail, vegetation, hydrography, and 50-meter contours. The data is provided by Geoscience Australia in digital PDF format with coordinates in GDA94, GDA2020, and AHD datums.
Use Cases
Perform terrain analysis based on 50-meter contour intervals mentioned in the description.
Map transportation networks based on road and rail infrastructure features.
Conduct hydrological studies based on hydrography and water feature data.
Analyze land cover and vegetation patterns across different regions of Australia.
Create custom base maps for field surveys or regional planning based on standardized topographic features.
Strengths
Covers the entire Australian continent with 516 map sheets.
Represents the largest scale (1:250,000) for published topographic maps covering the whole continent.
Contains multiple feature types including infrastructure, vegetation, hydrography, and contours.
Limitations
Data is provided in PDF format, which is not natively machine-readable for analysis.
Row count and file size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
