Description
NACP Regional Synthesis provides two integrated products for North American carbon accounting. The first aggregates outputs from 22 terrestrial biosphere and 7 inverse models to Greenhouse Gas inventory zones, providing monthly/yearly estimates for Net Ecosystem Exchange, Net Primary Production, Vegetation Carbon, Heterotrophic Respiration, and Fire Emissions across Forest, Crop, and Other Lands. The second product synthesizes national GHG inventories from the U.S., Canada, and Mexico to estimate land-atmosphere CO2 exchange within the same zonal and sectoral framework.
Use Cases
Comparing model-derived carbon fluxes with official national inventory estimates for validation.
Analyzing spatial patterns of Net Ecosystem Exchange across different land sectors (Forest, Crop, Other Lands) in North America.
Assessing interannual variability in fire emissions and heterotrophic respiration from 2000 to 2006.
Downscaling continental model outputs to specific GHG inventory zones for regional policy analysis.
Strengths
Integrates outputs from a large ensemble of 22 terrestrial biosphere models and 7 inverse models.
Provides sectoral breakdown (Forest, Crop, Other Lands) within geopolitical zones using the 1-km resolution GLC2000 land cover map.
Combines bottom-up inventory data from national agencies (EPA, Environment Canada) with top-down model synthesis.
Limitations
Key metadata conflicts exist: one platform lists a last updated date of 2026-04-10, while another lists 2007-12-31, creating uncertainty about data freshness.
Specific column names and exact row counts are not provided in any source, limiting precise understanding of data structure.
The temporal coverage for the core summary data is limited to the period 2000-2006.
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), derived from the North American Carbon Program (NACP) Regional Synthesis.
Collection Method
Aggregation of standardized 1-degree gridded model outputs and synthesis of national GHG inventory reports.
Time Range
2000-2006 (for the annual mean NEE summary file; model outputs may have similar coverage).
Freshness
Conflicting: One source indicates 2026-04-10, another indicates 2007-12-31.
Geography
North America (United States, Canada, Mexico), aggregated to Greenhouse Gas inventory zones.
