Description
NASA's 1993_GR_NASA Project dataset contains depth sounder measurements of ice elevation, surface, bottom, and thickness over Greenland and Antarctica. The data was acquired by the Multichannel Coherent Radar Depth Sounder (MCoRDS). It is hosted on AWS Open Data and is licensed under CC-BY-4.0.
Use Cases
Model ice sheet mass balance based on ice thickness measurements.
Analyze subglacial topography based on ice bottom elevation data.
Monitor changes in polar ice elevation over time.
Validate satellite altimetry data with ground-based radar soundings.
Strengths
Data covers two major ice sheets: Greenland and Antarctica.
Includes multiple related measurements: ice elevation, surface, bottom, and thickness.
Collected by a specific, advanced instrument (MCoRDS).
Limitations
Row count and dataset size are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
