Description
NASA's Operation IceBridge data set contains radar echograms, surface elevation measurements, and imagery of polar ice sheets. The collection includes measurements from the CReSIS Accumulation Radar, Airborne Topographic Mapper (ATM), Digital Mapping System (DMS), and other instruments over Greenland and Antarctica. Data were collected during funded aircraft survey campaigns.
Use Cases
Modeling ice sheet elevation change over time based on the surface elevation rate of change measurements.
Analyzing ice surface topography and roughness based on the resampled and smoothed ATM elevation data.
Classifying ice and surface features using the orthorectified imagery and digital elevation models from the DMS.
Estimating sea ice freeboard and thickness based on the derived geophysical data products mentioned.
Strengths
Data originates from NASA's Operation IceBridge, a major airborne survey program.
Covers multiple critical polar regions: Greenland, Antarctica, the Arctic, and the Antarctic Peninsula.
Includes multiple complementary data types: radar echograms, elevation measurements, temperature readings, and imagery.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale ML tasks.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
