NASA GFSAD Project: Global Irrigated and Rainfed Cropland Maps at 30m Resolution

A nominal 2020 product created from Landsat 8 time-series data spanning 2019 to 2021. This dataset provides high-resolution 30-meter maps of irrigated and rainfed croplands globally, produced as part of the NASA Global Food Security-support Analysis Data (GFSAD) project. It currently contains data only for the conterminous United States, with global coverage to be added later.

Use Cases

• Classifying irrigated versus rainfed cropland based on the 32 irrigated cropland types or single/double/continuous crop classifications.
• Assessing agricultural water use and irrigation patterns based on the mapped irrigated areas.
• Analyzing global or regional food production potential based on the spatial distribution of cropland.
