NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) generated a near-global digital elevation model (DEM) covering 80% of Earth's landmass between 60° N and 56° S. The data was collected over 11 days in February 2000 from the Space Shuttle Endeavour using radar interferometry at an altitude of 233 kilometers. This global 30 arc second (~1,000 meter) product is a result of collaboration between NASA, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, and German and Italian space agencies.
