A national spatial framework provides standardized ecological units for describing, monitoring, and reporting on Canadian ecosystems. The framework was developed between 1991 and 1999 by Environment Canada and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, with contributions from over 100 federal, provincial, and non-governmental organizations. It serves as a common ground for environmental reporting across different jurisdictions.
Data is provided in multiple geospatial formats (WFS, ESRI REST, FGDB/GDB, GEOJSON). Users must have GIS software or libraries capable of handling these formats. License is OGL-CA-2.0.
