Sub-bottom seismic profiling data were collected on October 1, 2014 in Ardmucknish Bay aboard the RV White Ribbon. The survey was conducted by the British Geological Survey as part of the NERC-funded QICS project to monitor gas-charged sediments near potential carbon storage sites. This was a follow-up to earlier surveys in 2011 and 2012.
Use Cases
- Monitoring changes in gas-charged sediment geometry based on repeated survey data
- Assessing environmental sensitivities to potential leaks from carbon capture storage systems
- Analyzing sub-bottom geological structures based on seismic profiling data
Strengths
- Data is part of a multi-year monitoring series, including surveys from 2011 and 2012
- Collected by the authoritative British Geological Survey
- Associated with the specific NERC grant NE/H013954/1
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Data may reflect geographic and temporal bias inherent to a single-site, single-day survey
