Description
A project mapping seagrass habitats across northern Australia from 2023 to 2026. Planned outputs include spatial GIS datasets from surveys, a synthesised historical compilation, and a final technical report. The project is conducted by JCU, CDU, and ECU, and aggregated by the Australian Ocean Data Network.
Use Cases
Map seagrass distribution for conservation planning based on spatial GIS datasets mentioned in the description
Analyze changes in seagrass habitats over time based on the synthesis of historical and new data
Inform regional policy decisions based on the recommendations for policymakers in the final technical report
Support community-led environmental monitoring based on the ranger-led monitoring network described
Strengths
Project focuses on data-deficient regions in northern Australia, targeting knowledge gaps
Plans to synthesize historical and new seagrass data into an open access resource
Involves collaboration with coastal communities and rangers for co-designed monitoring
Limitations
Description metadata is limited; actual data quality requires manual inspection after download
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
