Description
NASA's New Horizons MVIC Pluto Cruise Raw V1.0 dataset contains raw multispectral visible images captured during the spacecraft's cruise phase to Pluto. The data includes functional tests, calibrations, and science observations of Uranus, Neptune, and star clusters. This version 1.0 dataset was last updated on March 13, 2026.
Use Cases
Calibrating imaging instruments based on Neptune and Uranus observations
Analyzing stray light and dark calibration tests mentioned in the description
Studying planetary phase angles unavailable from Earth-based observations
Testing spacecraft navigation using Neptune as a calibration target
Strengths
Data originates from NASA's New Horizons mission, a trusted source
Includes observations of Uranus and Neptune at unique phase angles
Contains calibration data for instrument preparation for the 2015 Pluto encounter
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Collection Method
Data collected by the New Horizons spacecraft's Multispectral Visible Imaging Camera (MVIC) instrument.
Time Range
During the Pluto Cruise mission phase, including Annual CheckOuts one through four (ACO1-4).
