Leading causes of death in New York City are tracked by sex and ethnicity from 2007 onward, sourced from official death certificates. The dataset is maintained by the Bureau of Vital Statistics and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, with a last report run in September 2019.
Rates based on small numbers (RSE > 30) and aggregate counts less than 5 are suppressed in the downloadable data, limiting analysis for rare events or small demographic groups.
