Description
73 bona fide X-ray compact point sources were detected in Chandra ACIS-S3 observations of the nearby S0 galaxy NGC 1332. The data, collected by NASA on 2002 September 19-20 during a ~60 ksec exposure, includes source luminosities, spatial distributions, and spectral characteristics. The catalog excludes sources identified as part of diffuse galactic emission or associated with a neighboring galaxy.
Use Cases
Modeling the X-ray luminosity function (XLF) of point sources based on the reported power-law slope and break characteristics.
Studying the spatial distribution of X-ray sources relative to the optical light of the galaxy.
Identifying and analyzing ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) candidates within the D25 isophote.
Investigating source variability and spectral hardness to infer compact binary nature.
Comparing source characteristics and the absence of a central source with other early-type galaxy observations.
Strengths
Contains 73 specific, bona fide X-ray compact sources with individual detections.
Observation details are precise, including instrument (Chandra ACIS-S3), date (2002-09-19/20), and exposure (~60 ksec).
Analysis includes corrections for detection incompleteness and contamination, addressing known observational biases.
Provides specific luminosity measurements, including for two ULXs and a faint central source in a companion galaxy.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
The data were not of sufficient quality to constrain a potential break in the XLF slope at very high luminosities, as noted in the description.
