Description
XMM-Newton EPIC detected X-ray emission from stars at all spectral types in the young open cluster NGC 2547, peaking among G stars at luminosities of ~10^30.5 erg/s. This table contains properties of X-ray sources correlated and uncorrelated with optical cluster members, including cross-identifications, luminosities, and flux ratios. The HEASARC created this catalog in February 2007 based on CDS files from a reference paper.
Use Cases
Analyze coronal activity levels in solar-type stars based on X-ray luminosity and Lx/Lbol ratios.
Compare X-ray emission characteristics across different spectral types (G to M stars) mentioned in the description.
Study the evolution of stellar X-ray activity by comparing data from NGC 2547 with older clusters like the Pleiades.
Correlate X-ray point sources with optical cluster members using the cross-identification data.
Strengths
Data originates from the XMM-Newton EPIC instrument, a major space observatory.
Includes correlations with optical catalogs and comparisons with earlier ROSAT HRI observations.
Catalog created and served by NASA's HEASARC, an authoritative astrophysics data center.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale analysis.
Provenance
Source
National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA HEASARC)
Collection Method
Observations from the XMM-Newton EPIC instrument pointed at the NGC 2547 cluster.
Time Range
Observations likely centered around the cluster's age of 30 Myr, with a comparison to ROSAT data from 7 years earlier.
Freshness
Last updated 2026-03-13 18:57:36.137135; freshness should be verified.
Geography
Target is the young open star cluster NGC 2547.
