Description
Dekadal (10-day) NDVI vegetation indicators for Nicaragua are aggregated by sub-national administrative units using NASA MODIS collection 6.1 satellite data. Produced by the World Food Programme (WFP), the data tracks vegetation health through current indices, long-term averages, and percentage anomalies as of March 2026.
Use Cases
Monitoring agricultural health by comparing `vim` against `vim_lta`
Identifying drought conditions using the `viq` anomaly percentage
Correlating vegetation density with food security outcomes using Pcode join keys
Strengths
Uses NASA MODIS collection 6.1 satellite data
Includes long-term averages (`vim_lta`) for historical baseline comparison
Provides `n_pixels` to indicate the statistical weight of each aggregate
Limitations
Aggregated data loses the spatial granularity of raw satellite pixels
Dependent on cloud-free satellite observations which may affect `n_pixels` count
Provenance
Source
World Food Programme (WFP) via NASA MODIS
Collection Method
Satellite remote sensing (MODIS) aggregated to administrative polygons
Freshness
Updated through March 2026
Geography
Nicaragua
Uses WFP Pcodes for administrative units; users may need corresponding shapefiles to map the data.
