Description
Regional geological maps for the Mid North Sea High and Forth Approaches areas of the UK Continental Shelf. The maps were produced by the North Sea Transition Authority and Lloyd's Register as part of a three-year contract, with data released in the 2018/19 activity plan. The set includes depth structure, isochore, subcrop, supercrop, structural elements, depositional facies, reservoir distribution, source rock, well penetration, and hydrocarbon occurrence maps for main geological time intervals.
Use Cases
Analyze subsurface structure for exploration based on depth structure maps mentioned in the description
Assess hydrocarbon potential based on source rock and hydrocarbon occurrence maps mentioned in the description
Model depositional environments based on depositional facies maps mentioned in the description
Plan well placement based on well penetration and reservoir distribution maps mentioned in the description
Strengths
Maps are produced for main geological time intervals, including Paleocene, Lower Cretaceous, and Upper Jurassic
Project benefited from multiple third-party data sources including Heriot-Watt University seismic interpretation and the 21CXRM Palaeozoic project
Includes nine distinct map product types such as depth structure, isochore, and facies maps
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the specific UK Continental Shelf regions covered
