Description
Nine regional geological map products for the Northern North Sea and East Shetland Platform, released by the North Sea Transition Authority in 2018/19. The maps represent the third set of deliverables from a three-year contract with Lloyd's Register to produce maps and databases for the entire UK Continental Shelf. Products include depth structure, isochore, subcrop, supercrop, structural elements, depositional facies, reservoir distribution, source rock, well penetration, and hydrocarbon occurrence maps.
Use Cases
Model subsurface depth structure based on depth structure maps.
Analyze sediment thickness distribution based on isochore maps.
Map geological features and hydrocarbon occurrences based on structural elements and hydrocarbon occurrence maps.
Assess reservoir and source rock potential based on reservoir distribution and source rock maps.
Strengths
Includes nine distinct map products per geological time interval.
Integrates multiple third-party data sources, including the 21CXRM Palaeozoic project and PGS's North Sea Digital Atlas.
Project benefits from a three-year contract for comprehensive UKCS coverage.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the UK Continental Shelf.
Provenance
Source
North Sea Transition Authority, with contributions from Lloyd's Register and third-party data providers.
