Description
516 maps comprise the AUSTopo series, the largest-scale topographic map collection covering the entire Australian continent. Each standard map sheet covers approximately 150 by 110 kilometers, showing natural and constructed features like roads, vegetation, hydrography, and 50-meter contours. Geoscience Australia produces these maps in digital PDF format with coordinates in GDA94/GDA2020 datums and UTM projection.
Use Cases
Terrain analysis and elevation modeling based on 50-meter contour intervals
Infrastructure and land-use planning based on road, rail, and administrative boundary data
Environmental and hydrological studies based on vegetation and hydrography features
Map sheet edge matching and spatial data integration based on information from surrounding sheets
Strengths
Covers the entire Australian continent at a consistent 1:250,000 scale
Comprises 516 map sheets, including approximately 50 special maps for non-standard areas
Includes multiple coordinate datums (GDA94, GDA2020) and AHD for vertical reference
Limitations
Data is provided as PDF files, which may require conversion for direct geospatial analysis
Column-level documentation and sample data are unavailable, limiting pre-download assessment
The map may contain information from surrounding sheets, which could affect precise boundary analysis
