Description
Government of Ontario data reports full-time equivalent educator counts by gender and school board. The dataset includes academic year, region, board details, and counts for elementary male, elementary female, secondary male, and secondary female educators. It is sourced from October submissions to the Ontario School Information System (OnSIS).
Use Cases
Analyze gender distribution trends across elementary school female educators and secondary school male educators by board type over multiple academic years.
Model total educators per region using board language and board type as categorical features for resource allocation planning.
Investigate correlations between board-level totals for total male educators and total female educators across different board types.
Strengths
Data is reported through a formal provincial system (OnSIS) with standardized October submissions.
Includes detailed breakdowns by school level (elementary/secondary) and gender for granular analysis.
Applies privacy suppression for small cells (<10 educators) to prevent individual identification.
Limitations
Excludes educators at private schools, hospital schools, correctional facilities, and summer/night schools, limiting scope to public day schools.
Definition of long-term occasional (LTO) educators may vary across boards due to local agreements, creating potential inconsistency.
Small cell suppression distorts precise counts in categories with fewer than 10 educators.
