Description
The Ryevitalise Project area in the western North York Moors National Park, Howardian Hills AONB, and northern Ryedale District was surveyed in 2017. This dataset captures linear habitat features using the standardized Phase 1 Habitat Classification system, which comprises 10 broad categories and 155 specific habitat types. The survey was conducted by the Government Digital Service to provide a rapid assessment of habitat types and their potential conservation importance.
Use Cases
Mapping linear wildlife corridors based on the described habitat classification system.
Assessing conservation value for specific habitat types mentioned in the description, such as woodland, grassland, or mire.
Integrating linear habitat data with polygon and species datasets from the same survey for a complete ecological analysis.
Modeling landscape fragmentation using the geospatial line data representing habitat boundaries and features.
Strengths
Uses a standardized habitat classification system with 10 broad categories and 155 specific types.
Data is part of a coordinated survey effort covering a defined geographic project area.
Captures linear features, which are a distinct and often critical component of landscape ecology.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling.
