Description
O-Buoy6 collected daily, hourly, or continuous measurements over Arctic Ocean sea ice, including ozone, carbon dioxide, bromine monoxide, wind, temperature, humidity, pressure, location, and horizon imagery. The dataset contains Level 1 unfiltered data and was managed by the organization SCIOPS. Data are current as of June 26, 2012, with final data to be deposited at the deployment's end.
Use Cases
Analyze temporal trends in O3 and CO2 concentrations to study Arctic atmospheric chemistry.
Correlate wind speed and direction measurements with BrO levels to investigate halogen activation events.
Use latitude, longitude, and UTC time to map the spatial distribution of air temperature and relative humidity over sea ice.
Combine barometric pressure data with horizon pictures to study weather patterns and visibility conditions.
Investigate the relationship between heading, pitch, roll sensor data and local environmental conditions for buoy stability analysis.
Strengths
Includes multiple concurrent atmospheric measurements (O3, CO2, BrO, wind, temperature, etc.) for integrated analysis.
Provides data at daily, hourly, or continuous temporal resolution for detailed time-series studies.
Contains geospatial coordinates (latitude, longitude) enabling location-based mapping of phenomena.
Includes horizon pictures, offering visual context for the instrument's environment and conditions.
Limitations
Data is unfiltered Level 1 data, requiring user processing and quality control.
The dataset's final state was pending as of the last update in June 2012, indicating it may be incomplete.
Temporal coverage is limited to the specific O-Buoy6 deployment period, with no ongoing updates mentioned.
