Description
February 18 to March 11, 2015, data was collected during the NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer's EX1502L1 Caribbean mapping expedition in the North Atlantic Ocean. The dataset includes multibeam, singlebeam (EK60), sub-bottom profile, and XBT cast measurements. It was gathered by the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
Use Cases
Map seafloor bathymetry and identify geological features using continuous 24-hour multibeam sonar data.
Analyze sub-surface sediment layers and stratigraphy from sub-bottom profile data collected around the clock.
Investigate water column temperature profiles with XBT casts conducted at least every 6 hours.
Study acoustic backscatter and marine life distribution from singlebeam (EK60) echosounder data.
Strengths
Continuous 24-hour data collection for multibeam, singlebeam, and sub-bottom profiling systems.
Systematic XBT casts deployed no less than every 6 hours during the transit.
Limitations
The dataset's age means it may not reflect current oceanographic conditions.
Specific data volume, row counts, and column details are unknown.
Provenance
Source
NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI).
Collection Method
Collected via shipboard instruments (multibeam sonar, EK60 echosounder, sub-bottom profiler, XBTs) during the EX1502L1 expedition.
