Description
Long-term freshwater quality monitoring data for over two sites in the Okanagan-Similkameen Basin for the past 15 years or longer. Environment and Climate Change Canada collected this data under a federal-provincial agreement to assess status, detect emerging issues, and track regulatory effectiveness. The dataset includes measurements for nutrients, metals, major ions, and other physical-chemical variables.
Use Cases
Analyze long-term trends in nutrient concentrations based on the 15+ year monitoring period mentioned in the description
Detect emerging water quality issues based on the monitoring of metals and major ions
Assess the effectiveness of remedial measures and regulatory decisions based on the stated purpose of the data collection
Establish or validate regional water quality guidelines based on the physical-chemical variables measured
Strengths
Data spans 15 years or longer, enabling robust trend analysis
Includes measurements for multiple variable types: nutrients, metals, major ions, and other physical-chemical parameters
Collected under a formal Canada-British Columbia Water Quality Monitoring Agreement, suggesting standardized protocols
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale modeling
