Description
Flood hazard maps for Old Crow, Yukon, were completed between April 2024 and May 2025. The maps model three flood scenarios: a 0.5% (1-in-200), 1% (1-in-100), and 5% (1-in-20) annual exceedance probability event. The dataset includes GIS files, technical reports, and summary documents published by the Government of Yukon.
Use Cases
Model flood risk exposure for infrastructure based on the three defined annual exceedance probabilities.
Plan community evacuation routes and emergency response using the spatial hazard maps.
Integrate flood hazard layers into regional environmental and land-use planning studies.
Validate hydrological models against the government's official flood mapping study.
Strengths
Maps are based on three specific, standardized flood scenarios (0.5%, 1%, 5% AEP).
Includes complementary documentation such as a technical report and a 'What We Heard' report.
Data is provided in standard GIS formats (SHP, FGDB/GDB) for direct integration into analysis.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for large-scale statistical analysis.
Data may reflect geographic bias inherent to the single-study focus on Old Crow.
