Description
Opra (Operational Risk Appraisals) statistics from the UK Environment Agency assess the environmental risk of industrial process installations and waste operations for the years 2014 and 2015. Each installation receives a categorical score (A-E/F) across five attributes—complexity, emissions, location, operator performance, and compliance—which are summed to produce a total numeric risk score. The dataset excludes attribution that would allow specific locations or operators to be identified.
Use Cases
Modeling environmental risk levels based on categorical scores for complexity, emissions, and location.
Analyzing trends in operator performance and compliance ratings over time.
Developing risk classification systems for industrial and waste facilities using the described scoring methodology.
Strengths
Risk assessment is structured across five defined attributes: complexity, emissions, location, operator performance, and compliance.
Provides data for two specific years (2014 and 2015), allowing for temporal comparison.
Scores are derived from a standardized appraisal system (Opra) used by a national environmental agency.
Limitations
Row count and column-level documentation are unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Last update date is unknown; freshness unverified.
Data excludes identifying attribution, limiting join potential with other location-specific datasets.
Provenance
Source
Environment Agency (UK), aggregated by Government Digital Service.
Collection Method
Scores are calculated annually through the Operational Risk Appraisal (Opra) system.
