Salinity data collected by the Great Barrier Reef Wireless Sensor Network from November 19, 2009, to August 13, 2017. The dataset is part of the Great Barrier Reef Ocean Observing System project managed by the Australian Integrated Marine Observing System. It was collected via the Wireless Sensor Networks Facility, formerly known as the Facility for The Automated Intelligent Monitoring of Marine Systems.
Use Cases
- Analyze long-term salinity trends based on the 2009-2017 time range mentioned in the title
- Model coastal oceanographic conditions based on sensor network data from the Great Barrier Reef
- Validate satellite-derived salinity products based on in-situ sensor measurements
- Study the impact of environmental events on reef salinity based on continuous monitoring data
Strengths
- Data spans nearly 8 years from November 2009 to August 2017
- Collected by a dedicated sensor network facility as part of a national observing system
Limitations
- Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download
- Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment
- Freshness should be verified as the last metadata update is dated 2026-06-17
