Description
200 seabed sediment samples were collected from outer Darwin Harbour between July and September 2016. The survey was conducted by Geoscience Australia, the Australian Institute of Marine Science, and the Northern Territory Government as part of a four-year marine science program. Data includes grain size, inorganic elemental analyses, organic matter measures, and metadata for seagrass and hardground observations.
Use Cases
Creating thematic habitat maps based on interpolated abiotic parameters.
Analyzing seabed sediment composition for grain size and inorganic elements.
Assessing organic matter concentration, source, and reactivity in marine sediments.
Incorporating seagrass observation data into a government environmental database.
Supporting marine resource management decisions with baseline environmental data.
Strengths
Contains 200 seabed sediment samples with associated metadata.
Part of a coordinated four-year (2014-2018) science program involving multiple government and research partners.
Data will be merged with three other surveys to create region-wide interpolated maps.
Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment.
Data is provided in PDF and DOCX formats, which may require extraction for analysis.
