Description
326 households were surveyed in the Senegal river delta, one of the largest irrigated rice areas in Senegal, to study inequalities in irrigated agriculture. The dataset likely contains information on total land area cultivated, investment in irrigation, and agricultural income, with results showing large disparities where a minority cultivates over 100 hectares. Authored by El Hadji Malick Sylla and last updated in April 2026, the data is provided in an XLS file of 5.5 KB.
Use Cases
Calculate Gini indices for income or land distribution based on household survey data.
Model the relationship between farm size and agricultural profitability based on reported income deficits.
Analyze barriers to double-cropping adoption among smallholder farmers as described in the study.
Assess the impact of hydro-agricultural developments on land use patterns over time.
Strengths
Includes survey data from 326 households, providing a substantive sample size.
Focuses on a specific and significant geographic area: the Senegal river delta.

Limitations
Column-level documentation is absent; field semantics must be inferred after download.
Row count is unknown, which may limit suitability assessment for certain analyses.
The 5.5 KB file size suggests a very limited scope of variables or aggregated data.
